JGC has been successful in winning, jointly with JGC Arabia Ltd., its Saudi Arabian subsidiary, a lump-sum turnkey contract from Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabia's state-owned oil and gas company) to build a large natural gas treatment plant with a capacity of 1,600 MMSCFD. This project is located in Hawiyah, Saudi Arabia, about 180 km southwest of Dhahran and about 270 km east of Riyadh. The JGC group is responsible for design, materials/equipment procurement and construction services. Delivery is scheduled for November 2001.
Saudi Aramco is actively promoting a program to expand natural gas production and supply facilities, in an attempt to meet the country's rapidly growing demands for power generating fuel gas and chemical industry feed gas. The Hawiyah Gas Development Plan in which this plant is included, is to be implemented as a part of this expansion program.
Since 1983, when JGC received the first order from Saudi Aramco on a sulfur recovery plant, JGC has so far worked for the client on five projects including the facilities now under construction. The award of the contract this time is believed to reflect Saudi Aramco's high evaluation of JGC's technical expertise and project management capability proven through the experience. JGC hopes to be further successful in winning contracts in the Middle East, while maintaining the close business association with the client.
