Yokohama, Japan - JGC, in a joint venture with Kellogg, Brown & Root (KBR), has won a contract for the In Amenas Project facilities, a large-scale natural gas development project in Algeria planned by BP and Sonatrach. The In Amenas gas field is located in the Sahara desert, in the southeastern region of the nation approximately 100 km west of the Libyan border.
The JGC/KBR joint venture will provide design, procurement, construction and commissioning services for a natural gas processing plant with a throughput of 1,050 mmscfd, offsite utilities, three pipelines, and related infrastructure. The value of the contract is approximately US$ 745 million. Completion is scheduled for October 2005.
Working with SONATRACH, JGC provided feasibility study services on all of the southern districts (nine gas fields), including the In Amenas gas field, in 1989 and 1990. Additionally, in 1999 and 2000, JGC, in a joint venture with KBR, provided front-end engineering design services. As a result of its previous involvement in these areas, JGC/KBR was awarded this key project for BP/SONATRACH.
JGC's activities in Algerian oil- and gas-related projects span three decades, and in excess of 40 projects have now been completed. Currently, JGC is carrying out several projects in Algeria, including a gas boosting compressor facility in Hassi R'Mel, a crude oil production plant in Ourhoud, and a gas field development project in In Salah.
JGC is committed to providing its expertise and experience to Algeria on a long-term basis and continuously contributing to the further prosperity of the nation.
