Yokohama, Japan - JGC Corporation has been awarded a lump-sum contract by Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) for the construction of cogeneration facilities at Saudi its Berri Gas Plant. The plant is located near Jubail, an industrial hub in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia.

Contract signing for the project took place on 27 May, 2003 at Saudi Aramco's headquarters in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. JGC is to provide overall services including design, equipment/materials procurement, and construction, for the cogeneration facilities. Completion is scheduled in April 2005. This is JGC's first power generation project in the Middle East.

Saudi Aramco is actively planning power generation facilities to save electricity costs at the plants it operates. The Berri Gas Plant project calls for the installation of 300-MW cogeneration facilities, comprising a combustion gas-turbine power generating system as well as a heat recovery steam generator.

Including the Haradh Gas processing plant to be completed in June of this year, JGC has so far worked on seven Aramco projects. JGC hopes to maintain a long-term close relationship with Saudi Aamco.
