Yokohama,Japan - JGC Corporation has been awarded a contract for the basic design of a US ammonia production plant which will use gasified petroleum coke as its raw material. The world-scale petcoke gasification project is being developed by US Syngas LLC. Mozaic Fertilizer LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mosaic Company of the US will market or purchase a majority of the 1.3 million annual tons of anhydrous ammonia produced at a new complex to be constructed adjacent to Mosaic’s existing manufacturing plant in Louisiana.
The complex will produce ammonia from hydrogen which, itself, is produced through the gasification of petroleum coke. In addition, the by-product sulfur will be recovered. Also, the carbon dioxide generated during the gas synthesis process will be used in EOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery) in oil fields in the region to boost crude oil production.
JGC will provide the basic design (pre-FEED) of gasification facilities and ammonia production facilities. The work includes coordination of multiple licensed technologies and optimization of the process configuration for all processes including syngas production, gas processing, sulfur recovery, ammonia synthesis, and utility facilities.
JGC's recent accomplishment for Nippon Petroleum Refining Co., Ltd. in Yokohama, Japan has generated significant international interest in JGC gasification knowhow. As such, JGC was invited to participate in the earliest stage of project planning for the Louisiana project resulting in JGC receiving the basic design work.
JGC, an engineering contractor with a solid record of achievement in gasification plant engineering and construction, will continue to actively proceed with technology development and plant construction to meet social and environmental needs. |
