Subcontractor Management

"JGC is a contractor without a construction equipment or construction facility." This statement explains JGC's approach to construction as an engineering contractor. When JGC carries out construction work, it is not necessary to prioritize the availability of our own machinery or schedule the assignment of the specific artisan manpower. Instead, for any location in any part of the world the best subcontractors are selected for the given environment. By drawing on the ability of the local manpower to the maximum it is possible to observe all the local "norms" in the execution of the construction work. For the success of the project, it is important to establish close cooperation with the subcontractor, and manage/control the construction work in order to carry out the work smoothly. Based on this consistent strategy through EPC projects, JGC considers various factors, including the project scale, local culture and size and available technology of the subcontractor in the country where the construction work is to be executed, to select the most efficient subcontractor from a variety of options. JGC has built close trustful relationships with various subcontractors in Japan as well as in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. JGC ensures powerful leadership as the main contractor, and controls the construction work shared by several subcontractors in order to carry out the work most efficiently. As the construction work has to be carried out in an environment where various races, cultures, and concepts are crisscrossed, it requires wholehearted and logical guidance of the subcontractors to achieve a thorough understanding and efficient implementation. JGC assures clients of being able to complete complicated plant construction within schedule and with minimum cost by utilizing the outstanding know-how and manpower resource acquired though various experiences in overseas projects.

Material Management
Material management is a critical factor for successful construction work. It requires the ability to deliver materials timely to the on-site management and subcontractors. Therefore, JGC uses Construction Management System (CMS) fully in the construction phase to provide consistent information management without loss by maintaining continuity with each system used in engineering and procurement. For instance, JGC can achieve optimum delivery timing for materials and develop an achievable construction schedule by loading design data, procurement data and construction data into CMS in regard to the piping materials that have to be procured in great quantity and require very complicated handling during plant construction. This is JGC's technology to attain a "balance between supply and demand" by the use of high-level IT to implement speedy and precise handling of the large amount of materials in different varieties without confusion.

Quality Management
Quality management is a most critical issue even during construction work because ultimately the plant will be operated to produce products that are processed under severe temperature and pressure conditions. It requires constant quality management of the processes and the materials, including the recording of the results of an enormous amount of various inspections and tests. JGC observes a Quality Management System, approved to ISO9001 and even on-site, JGC organizes consistent quality management to ensure the quality of the finished plant. JGC not only conducts the normal variety of inspection and tests but also use IT tools for superior quality management, such as Construction Management System (CMS), while our experienced supervisors and quality inspection staffs supervise and monitor the subcontractors work. Under any condition in any region of the world, JGC guarantees to deliver a high quality project.

Schedule Management
Success of the construction work depends on the previously conceived construction implementation plan. Of them all, the study of the proposed construction schedule and implementation based on the planned result is a must for the construction management. JGC's schedule management using the PM (Project Management) technique has been carrying out construction management for a long time and has been highly rated all over the world. With the established Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) as a base, it is possible to handle a variety of construction conditions flexibly. JGC's construction engineers also drive the schedule network to establish optimum construction logic, as well as the utilization of world productivity data accumulated over the years, by using the work package establishment method to develop them into construction task factors systematically, and a general schedule network tool based on the Critical Path Method (CPM). JGC engineers offer the know how to develop the ideal schedule in accordance with the various construction conditions. In addition, JGC actively uses the Schedule Visual Simulation Tool (4D CAD SYSTEM), one of the most innovative software among those developed by JGC, for project implementation. In this manner, JGC's construction schedule management technique keeps evolving for the ideal planning implementation.
