Reducing noise in operating plants is necessary in order to:
- Protect the hearing of personnel
- Reduce interference with work and speech communication
- Avoid becoming a nuisance to neighboring communities
| |
JGC has been working with acoustics in plant design projects since 1970, and the JGC Noise Control Engineering Service is based on this accumulated expertise. JGC can provide not only assessment services, but also minimum-cost mitigation planning and implementation. |

| |
JGC's experienced engineers can offer noise measurement and analysis for operating plants, sorting through thousands of noise sources to pinpoint the most significant noise contributors within the plant (assessment). JGC can then suggest effective, financially feasible noise control measures (mitigation planning), and install them on behalf of the plant owner (implementation). JGC can provide all three services for operating plants, or during the design phase. |

APPLICATIONS |
| |
Noise control can be applied to a wide variety of equipment and facilities, including compressors, high-capacity pumps, gas turbines, boilers, HVAC systems, control valves, etc. |

EXPERIENCE |
| |
JGC has performed noise control services for more than 60 different plants, including petroleum refineries, gas processing plants, petrochemical plants, electrical plants, pharmaceutical plants, etc. |

EXAMPLE |

The following is an example of JGC's noise control engineering applied to an ethylene plant. |

Assessment: |
| |
The purpose was to achieve a noise level below 70 dBA at the plant boundary complex. A noise survey identified three significant noise sources: compressors, cracking furnaces and diesel engines. |

Mitigation Planning and Implementation: |
| |
JGC concluded that the most cost-effective means of noise reduction would be reduction in the noise of the compressors. Acoustic insulation was applied to the suction/discharge pipes of the compressors, bringing the noise at the plant boundary down below the acceptable limit. |
