JGC/UOP Mercury Removal Process

This process is co-licensed by JGC or UOP and enables the removal of mercury from LPG, naphtha, and natural gas condensates to 1 ppb level without the need for hydrogen. Applications include mercury removal at wellheads, treatment for ethylene production, and catalytic reforming. This process could realize lower CAPEX and OPEX compared with conventional processes. The process consist of the following three processes, A, B, and C. An optimum process is chosen based on the customer's conditions and requirements.

  Docomposition Adsorde

  Features

  • Removal of any types of mercury is possible by selecting an optimum process.
  • High-performance adsorbent achieves mercury removal to less than 1 ppb.
  • Unlike other processes, hydrogen is not used for decomposition of mercury compounds and thereby the process is more economical.

Applications

  • Mercury-containing LPG, naphtha, and natural gas condensates
  • Even a feed containing organic mercury or ionic mercury is treatable by adopting Process A or Process B.

Experience

  • Process A: 12 units
    Process B: 2 units
    Process C: 2 units

Awards

  • JPI (The Japan Petroleum Institute) Technology Award (2003)
