In recent years, the need for a safe and secure food supply has been increasing worldwide, due in part to rising food demands from rapidly growing populations in emerging countries, and in part to crop damage from extreme weather brought about by climate change. Furthermore, in industrialized countries, graying populations are becoming more and more concentrated in urban centers, creating a shortage of skilled farm labor and well-conditioned agricultural land.

To contribute to global food security and safety, JGC Corporation is applying our wide-ranging engineering expertise and superb project management capabilities toward developing plant factory systems that incorporate the latest IT and robotics technology.

In the future, we plan to develop package versions of our plant factory systems that can be marketed not only within Japan, but also globally. Aiming to provide solutions to worldwide water, energy, and food supply problems, we will offer our package plant factory systems to help meet the food needs of arid countries in the Middle East and Africa, and countries with cold climates and short growing seasons, such as Russia. We also plan to incorporate the package systems into the sustainable urban development projects we are undertaking in China and other emerging countries.
